TPN Member M&S Transport rescues a stray lurcher during deliveries

One lucky dog is now ready for re-homing thanks to kind-hearted staff at a Warrington-based M&S Transport who rescued him from the Cheshire roads.

After young lurcher Brian ran out in front of a truck on a road near the depot, driver Neil Bebbington took him to the company’s headquarters where he was fed, watered, towelled and petted by warm-hearted staff.

Warehouse workers made Brian a makeshift lead from pallet rope while an agency driver donated the ham from his lunch box and other staff bought him dog food during their lunch hour. M&S staff then took Brian to the Dogs’ Pad kennels next door to Cheshire Dogs’ Home in Grappenhall, where he spent a comfortable night waiting for the Dogs’ Home to open in the morning, as staff were unaware of the out-of-hours dog warden.

M&S staff have continued to visit Brian at the Cheshire Dogs Home.

“It was a real group effort,” says Ruth Towers, input manager at M&S Transport. “We’re all animal lovers here but we didn’t really know what to do with a lost dog. We looked after him and got him to the Dogs’ Home the following day. Brian’s a fantastic dog and we all fell in love with him while he was here, but we knew we needed to get him to the right place so he could be properly claimed by his owners or be re-homed.”

Anna Stansfield, manager at Cheshire Dogs’ Home, says: “It’s lovely for us to see the lengths people will go to in getting a lost dog to safety – the entire staff at M&S Transport looked after Brian while he was with them.

“I would urge anyone finding a lost dog in the Warrington area to report it immediately to the dog warden or to contact us at Cheshire Dogs’ Home.

“Brian was very lucky to be rescued from the streets and he’s now ready for re-homing after his adventures. We’re all hoping he finds his forever home after his escapades on the roads of Cheshire,” she says.
