TPN – THE Pallet Network has gained its ISO 14001 accreditation in environmental management. This achievement follows hard on the heels of its shortlisting for two UKWA awards, and the granting of ISO 9001 for TPN’s Hub operations and all its audited Members operations.
The network has been shortlisted for an environmental award by the UK Warehousing Association, (UKWA), as well as Best New Warehousing Member. A finalist position in the environmental award reflects the BREEAM excellence status and Planet Mark achieved by the Hub, as well as its carbon-saving design and operation.
TPN has continued to pursue its agenda of sustainable business even after its UKWA entry by achieving its ISO 14001.
Steve Underwood, general manager of operations and health and safety manager at TPN, says: “Safety, quality of service and efficiency are the standards by which we measure ourselves at TPN, so it’s satisfying to see external validation of this through the ISO standards and trade association awards. We never forget, though, that TPN is about actually doing the job and doing it well, not hanging plaques on the wall.”
TPN sets the bar extremely high for its 106 Member companies and their 122 depot locations around the UK. Every Member company is subject to a rigorous audit of its TPN operations, which is itself ISO 9001-accredited. The TPN audit team also provides extensive help and support to Members to ensure that their operations are efficient, safe and profitable. The TPN auditors almost 500 site visits in 2016 to help Members with specific project implementation or as operational consultants.
“You can’t just demand the best,” says Underwood. “You need to create it together.”
The network is now undertaking its ISO:18001 accreditation in Health and Safety Management.
The UKWA Awards 2017 winners are announced on 5 July.
