TPN’s Northern Hub “works fantastically wellâ€, says Leeds Parcel Company MD Dave Wilby. The company was one of the initial 28 Northern members to use the Hub, which services pallets originating in and destined for the North of England or Scotland.
“It was absolutely the right way to go,†says Wilby, whose company is a ‘top five inputter’ to TPN’s primary Midlands Hub. “We take 300 pallets a night into the Midlands Hub but now approximately 15% of that freight goes to the Hub near Preston. It takes half the time, which is good for us, the pallets are back for delivery quicker, which is good for customers, and that freight is saved hundreds of unnecessary vehicle miles, which is good for the environment.
“The Northern Hub also releases capacity in TPN’s main Hub so the network as a whole can grow while gaining in efficiency.â€
Wilby also notes, having driven LPC’s inaugural load into the Northern Hub himself, that the TPN operation is identical in terms of protocol, execution and health and safety at both sites.
