It’s baby (products) on board for Depot of the Year winner Lombard Express

Bambino Mio is a leading provider of washable nappies and baby supplies, based in Northampton. It sells its range of nappies, swim-pants, liners and sanitisers into all major UK supermarkets, retailers such as Amazon and Mothercare, and exports its goods to mainland Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.

TPN Member Lombard Express takes pallets of Bambino Mio goods to the TPN Hub for delivery into all the major retail RDCs. Typically orders will come in during the week and be dispatched on a Friday for next-day delivery into stores.

It is essential that the company has a transport supplier it trusts because retailers’ distribution centres are notoriously rigorous with the delivery windows and the pallet standards they demand. “Mostly Lombard Express and the TPN system work brilliantly, and if we do occasionally have an issue, often because of difficulties at the retailers’ end, it can be easily resolved because the pallets are all fully traceable,” says founder and MD of Bambino Mio, Guy Schanschieff. “It also helps that we can provide photographic evidence of pallets and TPN Connect data to confirm the state and delivery of pallets.”

Schanschieff started the business 20 years ago along with wife, Jo, and the business grew by 70% last year and doubled in size the year before. Its products have a broad appeal today because washable nappies are more environmentally friendly than disposables but are much easier to use and wash than old-fashioned terry nappies.

Kettering-based Lombard Express won Depot of the Year at the 2017 TPN Awards, chosen by their peers.
