Innovation, backed up with high service levels, is the key to customers’ satisfaction according to west country TPN member Gardner Distribution.
Managing director Kevin Gardner says the company has been successful in tendering for and keeping client accounts in the EX, PL, TQ and TR postcodes because it always strives to make customers’ transport as efficient as possible. “TPN has introduced a quarter pallet system and we have spent a lot of time analysing for clients when the quarter pallet becomes cost-effective against the services of courier companies. We always work with clients to redefine their packaging and handling methods in order to lower their transport costs without compromising their goods’ safety or their service levels,” he says.
Gardners, which formed in 1963, joined TPN five years ago and now handles 1,700 pallets a week, in and out of the Hub. It has a fleet of 35 vehicles with which it also handles European distribution. “We run double deck trailers into Europe allowing us to collect cargo with different footprints and double stack them. This increases the volume carried and makes the service more efficient without affecting the integrity of goods carried,” says Gardner.
“Being part of TPN has helped us to develop partnerships with companies throughout the West Country. We have invested in the network, not just in equipment but in human resources and IT.”
