It seems that TPN Members love their motor sport and the Bellshill-based Haig Transport team is no exception. Director Marco Haig leads by example as he completes his third season in the Celtic Speed Mini Cooper Cup Championship.Â
Haig’s is fielding a brand new car for 2015, with a shiny black and red livery, after its 2014 motor was so badly damaged it only just made it to the last race.
Marco Haig says: “The championship is purely for BMW R50 Mini Cooper cars and is very strictly regulated and so the 30-odd cars are as identical as possible. This makes for extremely close racing and a little rubbing now and then!â€
The series is televised on Motors TV which helps to promote both the series and the drivers and their sponsors. Haig Transport has gained some new sponsors this year, including Harry Fairbairn BMW Mini, Euroscot rentals and Quickpartz BMW.
Being a Club Championship the drivers are all amateur and are always looking for more sponsors to help fund their racing activities. The series is based mainly at Knockhill in Scotland but there are away rounds including a bout at the Oulton Park Mini festival in Cheshire in August.
