Lancashire-based FDC Holdings has invested heavily to keep up with customer demand over the past two years. Business development manager Ian Maudsley says the company has “doubled its staff, won four new big contracts, acquired 10 new trailers, six new units, three more vehicles, and a new 310,000 square foot site as well as our existing site in Chorley.â€
The company has built its business based on a cast-iron reputation with customers. One of its first flagship customers, which joined FDC in 2001, is a specialist in school and office equipment, and requires next-day services to customers throughout the UK and internationally. Its smaller consignments are sent as parcels but palletised goods are sent through FDC and TPN.
The clients’ despatch and warehouse manager says that cost is important but not as important as reliability, as poor service costs more in the long run. “I can’t remember the last time we made a claim for any loss or damage in transport. FDC is very good. It offers a great service and we have the benefit of a small local team with a national reach,†he says. “The difference is, you can tell it’s a family-run business, as everyone cares more and will go that extra mile for you. Something that we really appreciate.â€
