Treating the customer as king has created 26% growth in pallet movements during 2010 for Purfleet-based GC Distribution, despite the struggling economy.
â€œA lot of our established customers are growing organically and we are geared up to grow with them,â€ says MD Graham Paine. â€œTPN is such an effective network that our business is growing fast. We get new customers by recommendation nearly every week.â€
Paine says the company prides itself on being forward thinking. It is applying for ISO:9001 and ISO:14001 through the British Standards Institute to prove its quality of service and its environmental credentials.
â€œWe also employ young people because then we can train them from the start in our way of working and thinking. Our high levels of service mean our customer retention is excellent,â€ he says. â€œWhere others see problems, we see opportunities.â€
GC Distribution, which covers the Romford, Barking and Ilford postcodes, along with parts of Enfield and Chelmsford, carries a wide range of freight such as wines and spirits, electrical cabling and welding rods. â€œIt is essential that great care is taken when handling fragile freight,â€ says Paine. â€œWith any freight, there is always the risk of damage. However, the quality of service provided by TPN means damages are very low. This matters tremendously to customers.â€
GC inputs between 1,200 and 1,400 pallets to the Hub for customers each week and delivers 900. The company specialises in pallet movements, but will offer pick and pack and storage services to those customers who need it.
